Forest Town 'High Street'

These photographs were taken for a Chad Feature in April 1983, they are on the main street that runs through Forest Town from Mansfield to Clipstone. Over the years it has been referred to as the Top Road, High Street, Clipstone Road and is now Clipstone Road West.

While the frontage of some of the shops remains the same, today [2013] the owners/ occupiers and types of business have all changed. Only the Post Office as a business remains the same.

In 1983 the Chad reporter told readers ‘Today in Forest Town one will find that trades people have marched with the times in providing with what today’s customer demands – a wide rangeĀ  that covers everything from the latest in micro electronic gadgetry, to the modern grocery list of both fresh and instant foods, toiletries, fancy goods and so on. Thirty years on some of these are still available in the local shops.
