British Legion

These photos are among the CHAD negatives held at Mansfield Museum, they are a bit of a mystery as none of them say where they were taken. Does anyone have the answer for us? Maybe someone can name the people on them.

  • No idea for pic 1 but I think pic 2 would have been at the Legion office which was on Commercial Street at that time (now demolished).
    Pics 3 and 4 are at the Town Memorial on Carr Bank. The Legion standard bearer who is still going strong at 96. I can see the late Reg Strauther in the line up.
    Pics 5,6 and 7 are of the Annual re-dedication at Southwell. The parade forms on the Burgage and marches down King Street (pic 5), onto West Gate and turns left into the Minster.

  • I think no. 5 was taken at the top of West Gate in Mansfield, approximately where Bon Marche is today. At the top of the photo, the road curves round slightly to the right and joins St. John’s Street.
