Mansfield Colliery Welfare

Presentation of American Flag

By Pauline Marples

This is an intriguing photograph believed to be taken in the Mansfield Colliery Welfare at Forest Town November 1981 - why, and for what is this flag being presented?

I think that about that time some visitors from the United States came over from Wyoming, they probably presented the flag to the Welfare. The 2 gentlemen are - left Geoff Piggin, and right Lol Foster

It is definitely Geoff Piggin and Lol Foster but I believe the visitors were from Texas and they came to Mansfield in around1980

My Dad Ben Woodland trained the Mansfield Colliery Coronets Band and I remember him and my mum going to Texas with the band at about that time.
