  • Just come across this website, ref Ronnie Deakin’s article, my Dad Bernard Randall played for the Woodhouse team in the 60s. I recall the home ground was somewhere where The Fairways road is now, down the lane near the ponds.
We lived on St. Edmunds Ave at that time and on practise night he would take me with him, we walked to the ground but would sometimes get a lift from Ronnie’s Dad or Jack Buck on the way. Remember Len Moult, also Eric Todd, who I believe lived on Marples Avenue. Also seem to recall Jack Buck’s son John, who I think was a plumber?
No sign of cricket ground now as so much of land around there is housing. Hope this also helps someone else remember those days.

  • My dad played for Woodhouse amateurs. Bill Deakin, he’s in 1st pic, centre row, centre person. He’s also in pic 4, back row 1st right with cap. My older brother ( Paul Deakin) and I used to watch them when dad played.
Names I remember are Jack and John Buck, that is Jepson in picture, think his first name is Barry. I also remember Bob Hemmingway . I think he had a son called Robert? I also think someone was called Len Moult? He was an opening bowler. Some of the names I’ve mentioned may not have played until the late fifties/early sixties.
Dad later went on to play for James Maude and when he retired became an umpire.

  • The photos of the Pleasley Vale Cricket Ground brings back memories of an idyllic place, when every Saturday and Sunday in the Cricket season crowds flocked to watch the cricket. The Pavillion appears to be smaller than I remember, the area where spectators sat appears very small to how I remember it. Pic. 1 3rd from Right Edmund Buck, middle row 1st left, ? Jepson. Pic 2 front row Left, extreme Right Jim Flinders? Pic 3 back row 2nd from right ? Jepson middle row 2nd from right, Johnie Downam seated on ground, right Jim Flinders. pic 42nd from left Jack Buck back row, 2nd from right Edmund Buck. 7th from right Johnie Downam, I believe some of these players also played football for St Edmunds in the 40s and 50s.
