Yes – I remember it well. I was then aged 28 and was living in Portland Rd, Edgbaston, Birmingham. The max gust was 75mph at 9.20pm on Friday 2nd Jan 1976. I ran out of fags so went to pub at top of road – trees blocked Hagley Road-blown down at 9.30pm after the BBC1 news. Severe gusts made walking almost imposible. Hundreds of shop windows blown out down Broad Street.
