These photo’s of a garden party at Daleside Elderly Peoples Home in Forest Town were taken in August 1979. They reveal it was a very enjoyable event, The weather was fine and the crowds turned out to give their support and enjoy the dancers and stalls.

Second row on the right (pictures 1 & 2)was Jack Shore, now residing at Radcliffe on Trent. Pat Shore
Other members of the Mansfield Morris Men are;
The Fool is Keith Davison, known as ‘Milky Keith’ because he was a milkman for the Northern Dairies when the dairy was on Little Barn Lane.
The Squire, in the top hat, is Keith Davidson and was, for obvious reasons known as ‘Squire Keith’
I hope I have got the Davison and Davidson the right way around.
The gentleman on the left of the first photograph, with the beard, is Tony Howes who was an art teacher at the Manor School.
The gentleman in the first photograph, second row on the right was Jack ? who came form Sutton in Ashfield
I was also a member of the Morris Men at this time and was at the Daleside Garden Party but I do not appear in any of these photographs. The Morris Men provided a guard of honour at my wedding the following year.
I still have a file with the various dance steps and the music as I was the Dance Master for a short time.
I also have a drinking tankard which was specially made for the Morris Men, it holds 2 pints! Dancing is thirsty work.
The Morris Man nearest the camera in picture 1 is/was my father-in-law, Reg Davey from Mansfield Woodhouse, a prominent member of Mansfield Morris and Mansfield Folk Dance Group.
