Girl Guides

The Guides and Brownies groups are believed to have been started in 1931, they were recalled by Mrs N E Dougdale in the 1980’s

“When I became Divisional Commissioner of the Mansfield Girl Guides, I started a Girl Guide Company at the hospital, and  visited weekly with senior Guides.

We had great fun and games, and quite a few of the girls were enrolled so that when they returned home they could join their nearest Company.

When Thieves Wood School was opened, the Harlow Wood Company was closed and a Company formed there. The Harlow Wood Company Flag is still in the Chapel.”

(The Guide and Scout flags remained in the Hospital Chapel until Harlow  Wood Hospital closed in 1995 when it is understood they were taken to St Peters Church in Mansfield.)
