New Crossing Opened

Chad

This crossing on Clipstone Road West, Forest Town warranted an official inauguration that took place in October 1973.

Mr Charles Parkin is centre front, on his left Councillor Jim Hawkins, and on his right Councillor George Albert Jelly, Chairman of Mansfield Woodhouse UDC.

At a date unknown, the crossing was moved further up the road, it is now in front of the Charity Shop.

Over the years the shop owners and buildings have changed many times. In this photograph the Prince Charles Public House has an entrance to the right of the building, an entrance not in use to day. The Handy Man Shop was important to people who needed items of DIY, and Mrs Cook’s paper shop will be remembered by many people. She also sold other items – look at the sweet jars in the window.
