Westfield Hotel.

A favourite pub of mine back around ’62 / ’63. I believe it is no longer a public house or Hotel?

Going down Westfield Lane toward the Folk House was a car rental business (on the right) called Holdens – long gone I’m sure. Rented my first car from there a Morris 1000 Traveller – anyone remember Holdens?

Friendly Place-Early Sixties.

  • Back in the 60s & 70s the Westfield pub was run by Mr & Mrs Wright.
My grandma Doris Stokes worked there as a barmaid for many years until she retired at 76 years. She use to serve mainly in the tap-room and Mrs Wright served in the best room as it was known.

  • Mr Cooke of High St M/W newsagent took over the Pub in 1949/50. It is now a Solicitors. I remember Holdens further up Westfield Lane.
