Mansfield Shoe Company Photographs

Hilda Taylor was born in 1909 and lived on Chaucer Street, Mansfield. On leaving school she went to work at Mansfield Shoe Company, her brother Norman also worked there. Hilda can be seen on both these photographs, she is the young women sat at the sewing machine on the float, and on the large group she is eighth from the left next to the girl in the white overall. The group photo was taken on the 11th October 1932 on the roof of the Shoe Company building. It is believed the photo on the float was taken in 1927 as it displays a board ‘St Crispin Patron Saint of Shoe Makers Blesses the tury’s [Century’s] Progress  1827 – 1927′. Note also at the back of the float the board says ‘Mansfield Shoe Co Students’. It is also interesting to see the photo is taken in front of The Meadow Foundry.
