The middle photo here brings back memories of my late father, the Parliament Oak, and the Portland where his two favourite public houses in Woodhouse. Years ago as a child, before the advent of not being allowed to take beer etc outside of a pub to drink, you could get served in the “Parly” and on a nice day go and sit on the old cross stump or “buttermarket” as he used to call it and enjoy your drink there. It was such a shame we lost the Parliament oak in Woodhouse, this was in every sense, a real old time public house.
