Harvest Festival

Many churches and schools at this time of the year celebrate the Harvest Festival by decorating their church in a variety of ways.

The Wikepdia Web Site tells us :

In Britain, thanks have been given for successful harvests since pagan times. Harvest festival is traditionally held on the Sunday near or of the Harvest Moon. This is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox (22 or 23 September). The celebrations on this day usually include singing hymns, praying, and decorating churches with baskets of fruit and food in the festival known as Harvest Festival, Harvest Home, Harvest Thanksgiving or Harvest Festival of Thanksgiving.

The church had both art and floral displays, tables full of fruit, vegetables, and tinned and packet produce.

A very meaningful service was led by Rev. Linda Williams in which she told us about and demonstrated a Lulav and Etrog [discover more about this on www. myjewishlearning.com]

Harvest Distribution

In years gone by the, after a harvest service the produce was taken round to the elderly people of a village who it was felt were in need. Today the while things have changed a little, the produce is still often given to the needy. The Forest Town Methodist Church harvest produce was taken to The Beacon Project, in Mansfield and a Food Bank.
